Advice to Management

The saying 'you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar' comes to mind. Senior management seems to value the ability to control employees over production/revenue enhancement. I attended a Unit meeting that was about not being able to use headphones, limiting trips to the bathroom, and not having conversations with other employees. That meeting should have been about ways to increase revenue. It's sad, and demeaning, of course.

    Pros

Job stability is pretty much the only reason one should work here. Decent benefits, at least in terms of paid time off.

    Cons

Promotions and career growth are based solely on seniority, not talent! It can only serve as a stepping stone to another company.

    Advice to Management

There are way too many levels of management here. Some departments have more managers than people to manage! The management here is quite lazy and needs to step it up or be replaced.

The next job you have will seem great in comparison to this place.

    Pros

Workers, (non-management), are competent and professional even under this harsh work environment. There is a decent amount of vacation time.

    Cons

The Data Center itself is in poor shape. The carpeting and bathrooms are filthy. Also, as often as not, the HVAC leaves you either too cold or too hot. As a rule, management demeans and shows contempt for the staff. Training to acquire new skills is non-existent. There is no prioritization. Everything is urgent and needs to be done right away regardless of the amount of "urgent" things you're already working on. You can pretty much forget raises and promotions unless you kiss up to the right people. Of course if you do that you risk being the one they'll throw under the bus when there's a problem. Your personal life is inconsequential to management. As far as they're concerned you are expected to live and breathe work. Turnover is sky high and management's response is to threaten people if they talk about it. In fact this can be said to be a standard response from management to any issue that reflects poorly on top leadership. All things must be done with an eye towards covering yourself since finger pointing in the face of a problem outweighs solving the issue as far as management is concerned. Management is extremely top-heavy and only about 1/4 know what they're doing with the rest simply look for someone to blame and fire when things go wrong.

    Advice to Management

The only advice I can offer is the following: Please resign and take your stooges with you when you leave.
