I worked at Converse

Pros

- Shoes are everywhere! It is cool to see the creative process and see models that are being tested and some that won't be released for a year or two.
- Great work life balance; there is a small gym in the 5 floor office, which is a renovated historical factory mill; very cool office setting, yes it is mostly cubicals (low walls which is nice), but with a loft/urban feel inside it provides a great environment to work in. Always music echoing from random peoples cubes; from an outsider it might look like little work gets done, but that is hardly the case
- Casual dress attire; a t-shirt, jeans, and chucks or jp's is most of the office attire; The only people wearing suits were people visiting
- Good benefits; great discounts at Converse, Cole Haan, Nike, Hurley; occasional free products and shoes
- Summer hours

A business that is performing exceptionally well right now b/c trends fall in line with the brand, but hard to say 2-3 years down the road if that will be the case. With this industry, things happen FAST!

Cons

They're awesome! haha, get it, this field is titled "Cons", which is a common name for Converse shoes ;-) I'm an idiot ...

- NORTH ANDOVER; by no means a glamorous town; its a solid 40 minute commute from Boston if you are young and wanting to live in the city (where there is actually stuff to do)
- Run very lean - not that it is hard to progress your career, it will just take a very long time to do so
- Food options for lunch - a few decent restaurants nearby, a so-so caf with a neighboring company
- You have to be brand loyal (obviously); so, if you were to say have a wardrobe of competitor clothing, say goodbye to it Monday-Friday!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within vs. hire from the outside, long--term this will be more beneficial.

I worked at Converse full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Cool brand, legendary brand, great brand history, staff are better than upper management.

    Cons

Terrible upper management, low pay, quality of the shoes and apparel are of the lowest and corner cutting since all ages of the legendary brand. They rely on the brand to keep the staff and pay minimum wage and treat staff like cattle.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employers, pay the staff more, stop being so unethical!

I worked at Converse full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Giving out a lot of chances to no experience fresh graduated kid but with very low pay, good payment package for expat workers. Casual but comfortable working environment

    Cons

Management changing direction every season, confused about what they want to achieve. Money orientated. However, promotion is not efficient. Stressful and huge workload.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop using no experience fresh graduated student to handle big projects for the sake that you can pay them less. Should have all American manager as Chinese do not understand what the brand stand for while they only care about making more money.
