Former Employee - Store Staff

I worked at Conway full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Small personal company, flexibility is OK,no corporate guidance, most people are friendly working conditions are dismal at best.

Cons

No training or development plan for staff- potential for growth is very limited
Understaffed in stores
Insufficient infrastructure -MOM-Pop mentality

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Evaluate your real estate- get back to core businesses- trying to cover too many areas not doing well in most-
Invest in systems that are current state of art
Get in the field more often- too many loose ends

I have been working at Conway part-time

    Pros

    20% employee discount on clothes.

    Some great coworkers.

    Some professional managment

    Cons

There are news articles online reporting that the store was arm-robbed by its own employees (security gaurds) in December 2010 and Store Manager was assualted trying to apprehand a shoplifter in 2012. Some employees, including one assistant manager, was fired for shoplifting from the store

Unprofessional managment-- some managers use bullying, manipulation, yelling, intimidation and lieing to get employees to extra work. Week-vacations and most of the promotions are usually awarded to women over males.

Pay raise that I recieve is .20cents a year. Former employees told me it once was .20cent every 90 days, and that management rarely awarded it. Some employees talked about internal theft bonus ($250) and apphrending shoplifter bonus ($25) never being awarded to them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

District Manager and Presidents need to meet confidentially with employees to discuss what kind of job their supervisors are doing. This company is unprofessional and will become more porfessional as soon as they treat employees better and start investigating and firing unprofessional people.

Family-run business without room to grow. Company runs on bare minimum with weak / insecure business practices.

I have been working at Conway

    Pros

Location is great. Near Bryant Park, PATH and MTA stations nearby and walkable amenities in the area (restaurants, banks, parks, etc.)

Medical and Dental benefits are offered, but pricey.

    Cons

Senior management seems to not want to make any investment into upgrading the company's currently outdated infrastructure. Many of the senior employees have very basic computer skills or do not use a computer at all. Filing, and record-keeping practices are out-of-date and insecure.

Conway's current building is older and the offices have a very cramped feel. Bathrooms are very old and sometimes are not tended to which leaves an unsanitary situation.
