Always trying to do more with less, employees suffer.

I have been working at Cooper Bussmann full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Compensation is reasonable. Local group is a wonderful bunch of talented engineers. Sales and product management team are a motivated and well led group that communicates well with engineering. Local HR is world class, compassionate and also no nonsense.

    Cons

Corporate tends to ignore staffing recommendations of local group. We are regularly forced to do more with less. Current restructuring plan is poorly planned.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When staff is consistently trimmed we might look better for this quarter, but in the long run are suffering. Quality is suffering, new product development is suffering.

I worked at Cooper Bussmann full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Divisional business unit that is part of a larger organization. If you are young and willing to relocate you could do OK. Eight separate business units so you have endless options for your career path.

    Cons

After spending 5 wonderful years at a small, well-run company in Tualatin, OR, the company was acquired by Cooper Bussmann. Three years later my position was eliminated as part of an on-going downsizing operation to reduce costs. Moving large portions of production to Mexico and China in an attempt to lower manufacturing costs sealed the fate of many co-workers. Needless to say moral declined and much of the braintrust within engineering left on their own.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If a company can be profitable for over 45 years without a single layoff how is it that layoffs are necessary to maintain profits once you acquire it?
