I worked at Cooper Industries full-time for more than a year

Pros

Cooper has been there for 100+ years, with very good reputation and company culture.

Cons

The industry Cooper is in is kinda highly competitive, its growths in the recent 10 years is low. Hope its merge with Eaton would provide more opportunities.

Neutral Outlook

I worked at Cooper Industries full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Talented people, very motivated by personal values

    Cons

Management driven strongly by financial results. Innovation, quality, customer service and even employee development (training) are left behind.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide your employees a better environment where they can perform, instead of demanding them profits and margins. The management should work for the employees, employees should work for the customers, then customers will provide the benefits to the management. At Cooper, employees must work for the management.

I have been working at Cooper Industries full-time

    Pros

    Good Pay
Diverse Company, with many different products and business ventures.
    Updated and current I.T. Applications

    Cons

    Mediocre benefits, particularly with vacation.
Documentation and training are very poor.
Employee 'orientation' is simply filling out an I-9, then going directly to work.
Human resources and leadership are areas of opportunity within Cooper.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We are certainly in a tough economic environment and cost controls are important. However, I would urge management to reconsider the heavy use of outside consultants and contract employees. We have many complex processes and I.T. solutions and when we use outside resources as much as we do, there have been issues with critical knowledge leaving the company.

Vacation benefits are simply not competitive with other manufacturers. I recommend revisiting this benefit.

We have a lack of employee social functions that once existed. Examples are holiday parties, picnics and sport leagues. The culture is cold and frankly not very enjoyable.
