Pros

Great product - and even if you're not in the most creative role, you get to work with the photogaphy and do some creative stuff. For a while it has had a relaxed atmosphere and a young team and and has been pretty supportive in HR terms, eg time off if you got ill. And it is beginning to look like they've got the vision and energy to turn the company round. It could be a really exciting place in the next few years.

Cons

Bureaucracy everywhere. Want to get something done? You'll have to write at least 100 emails and copy in 5000 people. You can be s*** hot at what you do and management will be too busy filling out forms and pulling the ladder up behind them to notice it. For years this has stopped Corbis getting anywhere, but the way Gary Shenk and his new management team are talking, that might turn round.

Advice to Management

Get out into the real world a bit more.

    Pros

The company's creative mission was inspiring. I loved working for a company that honored photographers and photographs and helped make it possible for the craft to be successful as a business.

    Cons

Corbis is, essentially, a pet project and tax write-off for Bill Gates. Executive leadership was not held accountable enough for executing to strategy, fostering good business and leadership practices and company values, and supporting company employees.

    Advice to Management

Take the company seriously. The industry is one that requires re-invention and there have been change agents inside the company who were not heard. You can keep the artistic spirit and mission and still pay attention to good business practices and make the company successful.

    Pros

Lots of solid talent still around at Corbis The work environment is professional and located in a great location in pioneeer square.

    Cons

Can't seem to keep a CTO around for more than a couple of years. Very little meaningful transparency. Work is driven from the top down.

    Advice to Management

Be honest and transparent with your employees, especially with the decisions for company wide changes like firing a CTO or changing business models.
