I worked at Corizon full-time (more than an year)

Pros

The pay and benefits were good.

Cons

The place became micro-managed with too much emphasis on getting a huge amount of work done by requiring lots of overtime during the week which left little time for anything else outside of work.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a better solution of reaching the work goals instead of overworking your employees and replace those slack employees who are slowing down the process with employees who will give 100%.

It was disappointing to see a company with so much potential treat its employees worse than the inmates they service.

I worked at Corizon full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The pay rates are better than some of the local hospitals, and the insurance packages are pretty decent though a little expensive.

    Cons

There are unrealistic expectations for the nursing staff, heavy mandated overtime policies. Staff works 100+ hours every two weeks just to "get the job done" but company allow more people per shift- too obsessed with the "SCD" to see their people are burnt out. People call off because they are physically and mentally exhausted, and most of them have not earned the PTO time yet to cover those days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not ask your staff to do what you yourselves are not willing to do. If it is not okay for you to put in doubles seven days a week, why should your staff? Offer training to your staff and be willing to learn as well. If your people do not have the tools they need to perform, then they cannot succeed.

    Pros

You are compensated at a fair rate of pay

    Cons

It will take you an extra hour or two of your own time every shift you work just to get in and out of the prison. This company has a very autocratic management system and management does not care to listen to what you have to say. Much of management is run by gossip and employees are subject to discipline on the basis of gossip. Beware of taking a job with this company.
