I worked at Corning full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Very high tech and impressive business. No scrubs allowed here, either produce or you will be cut, as it should be.

Cons

Nothing specific to say against the company, some of the employees are irritating, but that happens anywhere. Not an easy job.

I have been working at Corning as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Educated teammates, salary, benefits, work and life balance, mixture of cultures. Some positions may get boring on the long run. Mine was not boring.

    Cons

Small town. But if you like country style without cowboys then it,s ok

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to reduce the qty of mid managers. More hands-on engineers instead

I worked at Corning full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

This company had great benefits, pretty good union protection, and great pay scale with plenty of room to move about the company. The management was approachable. They would often have company performance reviews and safety meetings so you were always in the know of your own performance and safety requirements.

    Cons

There is a certain improvement program that can implement plans for changes around the work environment that employees can submit to. It seems like they rely on that some what too much, and it makes you wonder why some of the ideas are even being listened to. It is also not the most stable work because everything is based on seniority and not ability. I was laid off after just under three months of employment after two consecutive 5/5 ratings on performance reports. More of a downside on the Union though, not the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out a way to keep your hard workers through the union and let the uncaring ones go. Seeing people not working, but safe from lay off really kills your employees morale. While at the same time rewards some who were slacking.
