I have been working at Corus Entertainment

    Pros

The location is in downtown Toronto, in a community with similar values. The work environment is very casual, such that employees are allowed to wear jeans to work (as long as the overall look is somewhat professional). Corus is a leader in promoting the environment; they are having a new facility built in accordance to LEED environmental standards. There are some perks that they started recently, such as summer hours.

    Cons

Salaries are below industry standards for a media company. In terms of opportunity, it is fairly low for career advancement. The health benefits are below industry standards. But especially, they do not invest in their employees. There is no emphasis in learning more as they do not offer courses, which is fairly standard for the industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in your employees and provide them with reasons to stay.

I worked at Corus Entertainment full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

They are fair, want to do good by their employees, are proactive with today's trends like time off for palliative care. They provide a lot of training and conferences. Moral at our location was good - but that is location specific. Senior management are 'real' and take an interest in the 'little' people, everyone is treated equal no matter what your position, they are interested in helping you progress your career if you that is your desire

    Cons

they run really lean so unpaid overtime can be and often is required, training and conferences are usually just for management not for staff, benefits are ok but I've seen better

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Benefits could be better, consider adding staff so staff aren't quite so burnt out from running so lean. This would mean less staff turn over, less training etc
