I have been working at Cost Plus part-time for more than a year

The product is interesting, customers are generally friendly, and the store is a nice environment to work in. In-store music plays some good songs on occasion.

Store is chronically understaffed, the associates are expected to do everything from cashier to stock to janitorial. Store is rarely OSHA compliant; injuries are frequent though often unreported in order to avoid reprimands from the management. Everyone is kept to "part-time under" employment, even when they are working more than the "part-time over" limit. More than all of those things, is the absolute failure known as the Explorer Program. Employees are expected to bully, coerce, and lie to customers to get them to sign up for the spam program. If an employee fails to sign up over 1/3 of each day's transactions, they are reprimanded. System fails to account for multiple transactions by the same customer (wherein they refuse to sign up for each transaction), and often fails to log successful sign-ups. Employees are never rewarded, only punished. Rather than address issues with staff, passive-aggressive notes are left in break area for employees.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Either completely overhaul the Explorer program and make it worthwhile for customers (and stop sending so much spam!) or do away with it. Stop punishing employees for customers not wanting to join the program.
