I have been working at Costco Wholesale as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Large multiple cafeterias, nice buildings, CEO's office is visible.

    Cons

IT people with no programming skills. They have promoted people from parts buyer to IT analyst.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within is good, but have to hire some from the outside. Don't just hire the outside as temps or for projects to do the hardwork.

It's a good place to work, for retail, but your job title is just a title...

Current Employee - Area Manager in Atlanta, GA

I have been working at Costco Wholesale full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Higher retail wages & salaries, good insurance and benefits, strong financial rating, reputable company name, higher income status of shoppers, open door policy, simple business ideas and basic ways of doing things

    Cons

Retail hours, somewhat of a dictatorship from the General Manager at the warehouse level, not very open minded to new ideas, archaic but somewhat reliable IT and technology systems

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Warehouse General Managers are somewhat dictators, close-minded, and follow only policies and rules that they choose to follow. Employee agreement handbook is there for a reason and policies should be followed consistently. If you want to move up within the Company, a salaried manager is nearly required to work 60+ hours a week during non-holidays and even more during them just to show "dedication" to your job and the Company. Upper management constantly wants you to put Costco above your family.
