Costco Wholesale – “Work here if you don't need anything else in your life.”
Pros
Wages are higher than other similar positions in other companies.
Cons
Warehouse managers and assistants tend to sit in front of the computers all day. Very rarely are they out on the floor seeing how everything is running. They are very quick to leave after their 9 hours and expect everyone else to work 12+ hours a day and love it. Management heavily relies on salaried staff to work long hours to avoid paying over time. Disrespectful and prohibitive towards any employee that may have a life outside of the company. Does not respect family oriented individuals unless they feel they may face a lawsuit due to provincial labour laws. Often expect supervisors and dept. managers to work without meal breaks and also expect them to work from home and come in on days off. Unfortunately the entire company, all the way up the management team has this way of thinking, subsequently making it impossible to take concerns to anyone higher up the management chain.
Advice to Senior Management
Put employees well being in a higher priority. Happy employees are healthier, more productive, have and give better morale and have much lower absenteeism. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.
