Costco Wholesale – “Just Say NO To Costco!”
2 of 2 people found this helpfulPros
The only pro to working for this company is their great pay and amazing benefits. The benefits, however, are only financial. If you are someone who appreciates an enjoyable work environment, then you just need to say NO to a position with Costco!
Cons
Oh, if I could only count the ways in which Costco fails their employees on almost every level (see exception above)
-Inadequate training, or no training at all. They not only fail their employees on this level but their members as well.
-They won't work around you having another job, so you're screwed if you are only working part time. (always the case as a new Costco employee)
-They do not value higher education. Even if they work around your school schedule they make you work way too much as a student. Managers are usually uneducated themselves and so you can see where this attitude comes from.
-Management is typically incompetent, lazy and disrespectful. They walk around and do nothing or talk on their phones while expecting you to do the majority of the brunt work. At the same time they are always prepared with a sarcastic comment or criticism, while offering little positive encouragement.
-Favoritism in promotions and in the way workers are treated. Favorites can get away with murder while non favorites, even if they are good workers, get treated unfarirly.
-Unpleasant work environment in which harassment is accepted, to some extent. They say they have an open door policy but it is more like you can complain, while nobody will take you seriously.
Advice to Senior Management
As far as I have seen there is no leadership in this company. Teach your "managers" about giving more positive feedback and constructive criticism. Take complaints seriously. Create some training programs so that both employees and managers are competent at their jobs. Most importantly quit thinking that your great pay is going to make up for the fact that you let management treat your employees like crap!
