Good place to work, however the path to senior management was hard to navigate.

Pros

The employees are friendly and each sub department has it's own flavor. There is much opportunity to volunteer and help the citizens of San Diego.

Cons

Unless your job requires working with other departments, it is difficult to get to know others. Each department stands on it's own, even within departments there is fragmentation.

Advice to Management

Offer more opportunities toward senior management to all and not just a few select individuals.

I worked at County of San Diego

    Pros

Lots of great people, hard working and talented. Competitive to get in, but it's in San Diego. Recommended place to work, but you will be working a lot. Good after hours spirit, good place to make friends.

    Cons

Lots of work, always understaffed and undertrained, as is to be expected in any public defenders office. Not looking like getting more money soon.

Good place to work and stay if you just want to do your job and collect a paycheck

    Pros

Great benefits and PTO; never much overtime; get to work on a variety of projects/issues.

    Cons

Senior leadership is out of touch with line staff, some of their choices appear strange; not a good economy now so no pay increases or benefits; you may be asked to work harder and longer if someone in the office leaves - their position may never be filled. The County doesn't seem to welcome feedback, comments, or criticism - they seem to just want people to do their jobs and be quite about it. Executives are stickler for the rules, unless they want to bend or break them.

    Advice to Management

Get to know your line staff. Ask for feedback before making changes that affect others.
