I have been working at Covance

Pros

The location is nice. Nice benifits. A fair amount of paid time off is given. The company is very diverse.

Cons

The management is very secretive. Voluntary turnover is high. Working on a bi-coastal project can be difficult. The attendance policy is very very strict. Senior operations staff can be difficult to deal with, substandard.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your attempts to improve morale have been poor. Improving morale has been an objective of the business unit for the four years I've worked here. Morale has not improved.

    Pros

There are a lot of nice colleagues. You can learn a lot from them. Kind of enjoy working with them.

    Cons

Below market salary is hard to keep their employees in the long run. The management skills need to be improved.

I have been working at Covance

    Pros

    - Very smart and hard working people
    - Good salary and benefits (compared across industries, not just pharma)
    - Global presence
    - Industry with high ethical requirements
    - Great opportunity to grow

    Cons

    - High workloads with limited capacity to improve (Six-sigma is a saying, not an action)
    - High management turn-over since results are required
    - Units function as distinct businesses without coordination and purpose
    - Very political and dis-functional communication among groups (if you can't find it on internal web, your left in the dark until someone points out what you didn't know)
    - Never seen or heard of movement between groups and locations except temporary assignments
    - Disjointed training unless directly related to your field (license and reg requirements)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your operations run like a small company trying to act like a big one. Need to make sure strategy is just as important as results, else you won't be able to sustain business. Do you know what your operations are running like or did you just like the results?
