I have been working at Coventry Health Care full-time (more than an year)

Pros

- Challenging, high-visibility, and mission-critical project exposure within first year on the job
- Opportunity to learn newer, state-of-the-art technologies
- Knowledgeable, friendly, team-oriented atmosphere
- Interact with and learn from leaders across several different business areas
- Wide variety of projects keeps work from getting mundane and boring
- Team leads and upper management recognize and value high-quality and efficient work
- Leaders and Mentors work with you to provide opportunities to develop and strengthen you skill set and knowledge base, as well as further advance your career
- Freedom to be creative and innovative when it comes to finding new solutions to both old and new business problems/challenges
- Majority of colleagues have great attitudes and sense of humor
- Management is very reasonable and flexible (within the bounds of company policy) as far as schedule is concerned
- Decent benefits
- Team members typically stay on board with the company for more than just a year or two

Cons

- Time tracking system leaves much to be desired
- Not all departments, positions, and projects have the same Pros as those listed in this review
- If you expect clear and specific direction from management and leadership without asking for it, you may become very frustrated in your role
- Weak project managers leading large, highly visible projects are not common; however, if you're stuck with one, your work might end up quadrupling due to poor project communication, coordination, organization, and general control of scope.
- Takes weeks to get access to software/systems/data after filing and expediting requests
- Manager-Employee ratio is high (1 manager:20 employees) in some departments
- Resource allocation/ workload distribution could be tracked and managed better to handle unexpected high priority/time urgent requests and fixes
- Change management tracking system is obnoxious, approval requirements change frequently (sometimes daily)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep on taking an active interest in your employees' professional success
Make sure any new managers you hire are of comparable or better quality than the leadership team you have now
Try to lower the manager-employee ratio
Bring in an assistant manager to track and stay on track of task/project assignments, as well as workload.

    Wonderful colleagues who work hard despite a difficult environment and lack of appropriate tools

    Cons

    Poorly trained managers who obtain no feedback from their staff persons. Highly heirarchical structure that minimizes the impact of employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hope that the Aetna acquisition can make you better. Collect feedback from employees about their managers -- and perhaps listen to it.
