Good intentions, but in practice many managers are archaic and risk adverse

I worked at Covidien full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great industry, lots of resources to work with, excellent pay and benefits

    Cons

It depends greatly on who you work for. Some managers are terrific, some are controlling, punitive, short sighted. People who stay often do so because they just coast along, not rocking the boat, doing as they are asked, being very cautious. I've worked for four global multinationals and Covidien was far and away the most political environment I've experienced. In many areas people are constantly worried about how they come across, what they say, what people think of them. At times it felt like I was constantly treading on egg shells. It constrains the company and makes it bureaucratic and risk adverse.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shed more light on how managers are operating in practice. The reason the company culture falls short of being the innovative and inclusive company it says it would like to be is that many leaders who are charged with leading this change are themselves not worthy of trust.
