I have been working at Crate and Barrel part-time

Pros

Coworkers are great to work with. Very helpful to each other. Great discount structure based on every 5 years.

Cons

New company structure has bankrupt employees with longevity. Lost of full time status and lost of wages and hours. Pay you less but expect full time work from the individual. Not caring that this is stressful to the individual. The old owner Gordon Segal have every thought in his mind to wow the associate as well as the customer. The new administration wants only to wow the customer and have done nothing but take away from the associates. Before, the company would promote all individuals regardless of ethnicity. This company talks diversity but doesn't practice it.

I have been working at Crate and Barrel full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people you work with (customers and co-workers) and product you sell. Great employee discount program.

    Cons

You are a number to the corporation. Loyalty is not rewarded. Ever since the company changed management, they are only looking at their bottom line. Employees were given ultimatums recently. Quit, or take a position with possibly less hours and less pay?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget who built this company: the customers and their interaction with the associates. Great product is important too, but the connections and service the associate establishes is key, otherwise all the sales will eventually filter to the internet. Promote from within!

I worked at Crate and Barrel full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good products in a showroom type setting

    Cons

The management team across the whole of C&B are shockingly lacking in management skills. Recent initiatives 'to improve the bottom line' have ripped the heart out of the company, too many experienced staff have been lost too quickly. Holding 15 minute one to one meetings to tell someone that has worked at your store for over a decade that they can either go part time on a lower wage or accept a poor severence package is not only an insult in terns of the offer but also insulting that only 15 minutes have been allocated to this important conversation.

In all honestly I do feel that the CEO is trying to fix the business but hope he realises that to do that he needs to replace all his managers rather than store staff.
