I have been working at Crate and Barrel part-time

Pros

Discount and Team and some product.

Cons

I have worked here over a lot of years, was full time making a great salary 1800 a month but when my store changed location 7 of us were told our choice was either be severance and leave or received severance, stay and lose benefits. This was due to not needing full time in the position. Lost only a dollar off my hourly could survive still until following year when the rest of the company caught up and everyone drastically lost money. Company lost a lot of employees. Struggling to make it.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop making comments that people who have worked there a long time should not get paid more then someone who is newly hired. When you know it's inappropriate stop trying to convince yourself that it is right.

I worked at Crate and Barrel

    Pros

    There are absolutely no pros!!!

    Cons

Under the leadership of Sasha Bopp, the company underwent a major restructure about a year and a half ago. They laid off a lot of good people, changed everyone's job duties (tacking on a lot more responsibility), and capped pay. That's right. No more raises. After the restructure, the company has made poor decision after poor decision. They now know many of the changes under the restructure do not work yet they do not know how to fix anything. You are forced to work in a system that doesn't work. To sum it up, the store is divided into two teams: sales and merch. The sales team is responsible for helping customers. When there aren't any customers to help they stand around and socialize with each other. And this is accepted. The merch team does everything else. Merchandising, floor stocking, inventory control operations, price changes, day sheet, back door pick-ups, even scrubbing the toilets. On top of all that they even have to sell and help customers. And they get paid the same as a sales associate. There is such a terrible imbalance of responsibilities. The Areas and Regionals are lazy and clueless. They sit around all day in an office, send e-mails and come down to the floor once in a while to show associates how out of touch they really are. This is a great job for someone in high school or college. But avoid Crate & Barrel if you are looking for a career. And avoid working on the merch team. They have spent millions on a collaboration with Paola Navone that is not selling and is collecting dust in the stores, promotional signage and marketing that hasn't brought customers into the store, and new fixturing that hasn't generated sales. The company continues its decline.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember Department Managers, Designers, and IC? Why not fire the people at corporate who continue to make bad decision after bad decision? Why not get rid of some of the Areas and Regionals who are so out of touch with what's going on in the stores?
