Former Employee - Basic Skills Instructor in New Bern, NC

I worked at Craven Community College part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It is a nice campus, kept clean. Pay is very competitive for adjunct faculty, especially Basic Skills instructors. Paid training and flexible schedules are some of the best perks. This school also makes sure it stays on top of legal changes.

    Cons

Depending on what you teach (for me it was GED) you have to look at the population of New Bern. Some students are not really interested in learning. It can be difficult to manage the class. It is difficult to get in at the college. I recommend making friends with someone in HR or the department you wish to work in prior to applying.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some of the management seems very disconnected to what the instructors really do on a daily basis. More involvement would be highly beneficial.
