Pros

Very friendly and casual atmosphere, very knowledgeable engineers, good mentoring, good culture, enjoyable work environment

Cons

Cray's marker is a niche (only the very highest-end spenders who can afford super-computers), so number of opportunities in this HPC space is limited.

    Pros

People are great when you get to talk to them.
    It's a sexy niche market.
There's some exciting things happening still.
    Nice flexibility.

    Cons

Extreme amount of silo'ing is happening and management seems unaware.
Lack of collaborative opportunities or autonomy cuts off a lot of potential for organic innovation.
Lack of career development or opportunities.
Lack of resources for supporting maintenance and productization.
Evaporating, non-competitive benefits. No profit sharing but many talks on what we must do to drive bottom line.
Stuck on old ideas, tools, processes and sometimes a "not developed here" mentality.
Management seems unwilling or unable to listen or care about employee concerns or suggestions past lip-service.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop taking people for granted and include them more than you have been.

    Pros

Software grown over the years will continue to offer some stability. However, from selling some of its core software to actual computer manufactures, this will be diminished in worth over the next 5 years.

    Cons

Moving from proprietary iron to "almost custom" Intel blade processors will put it in the "Me Too" arena quickly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe it is time to look back on what the core meaning of supercomputers is really all about; then to decide to have a unique offering, or to bail out of the market altogether.

    Positive Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
