I have been working at Credit Acceptance full-time for more than 8 years

Pros

Complete meritocracy. If you are talented and hard working, you WILL succeed here. Promotes from within and rewards hard work. Cares about people and is getting more involved in community work in 2012. Great company.

Cons

Not for those who want a place to hide or do the bare minimum to get by. This place is for driven professionals who want to be part of one of the best companys in the country.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you're doing. There will always be those who won't appreciate what it means to keep the company healthy (in terms of long term security and opportunity for all)

    Pros

The pay and bonuses are great! The hours and flexible schedule are EXCELLENT!!

    Cons

Uneducated, incompetent, and inexperienced staff. Supervisors hired from outside of the business who have no idea what they are doing. If you're fired from Chrysler Financial or Verizon Wireless' call center, you are a guaranteed hire. No developing of potential management. Medicaid offers better health and dental benefits. There is no effort to try and hold on to seasoned collectors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Credit Acceptance is working hard to get on the Forbes list of Great Places to Work and most of the previous comments were posted by employees who have been advised to come here and say positive things about CAC. I've heard working at the corporate office is great, however, working at the Southfield Service Center is a joke. Employees are written up and fired for ridiculousness, the supervisors are incompetent, unnecessary, and unapproachable. HR and upper management completely ignore employee concerns and have only recently expressed concerns in trying to make things better because everyone is trying to get CAC on the GPTW list. The work perks are no good, and state funded insurance is better than the insurance employees pay for. Therefore, a lot of employees have opted to stay on it. Supervisors tend to hire people they suspect will be greatful for the job and 90% of the office is low income African Americans. Sometimes the atmosphere is great, but most times it is uncomfortable and has you living in fear that you will be fired at any moment.

CAC knows how to make money and pays well but the people skills need A LOT of work

I worked at Credit Acceptance full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Very good pay, a lot of responsibility put on employees, very casual work environment, good opportunities for advancement, CAC prefers to hire/promote internally, a growing company with competent leadership, very open communication from top to bottom.

    Cons

    - Difficult work atmosphere, far too much distrust amongst employees and leadership, high turnover rate, terrible camraderie, no holiday parties, no offsite team building, a no-frills company that prefers to throw cash at employees in lieu of strengthening team ethics, one or two mistakes over the long term will define a person's performance, not very active in the community.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall good experience gained and good money earned working here, but CAC mostly came off as a body shop with too much turnover and distrust to build long-lasting, meaningful loyalty with most of its employee base. CAC's leadership needs to genuinely value employees and not take the attitude of "if you don't like working here, leave"
