I have been working at Credit Suisse

Pros

- Compensation is above the street
- Senior bankers try to understand work-life balance
- Deal flow was high during the LBO era, but slowed down considerably starting in 2008, even when compared to other bulge bracket banks

Cons

- Deal sizes tend to be middle-market level
- Some senior bankers are not top-notch material
- Communication from senior management to junior bankers can be improved
- Some MD's do not really have an open door policy

Advice to ManagementAdvice

- Some groups have great communication lines between the Head and junior bankers (ie. Energy group). Other groups (ie M&A group) have MD's who tend to let their junior bankers find out important developments from other sources

    I worked at Credit Suisse

    Pros

Well organised IT organisation with interesting work and good chance to "grow" within your technical area or switch between areas. In general processes and tools aim to assist and have improved significantly recently

    Cons

Don't expect to get promoted, banding and corporate titles are under very heavy quotas, the size of management is generally being reduced.
Official Process and documentation requirements are still very cumbersome at times

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    none

    I worked at Credit Suisse

    Pros

Strong managent overall, fair pay, good communication of firm's strategies, came through recession very well

    Cons

Management of individual teams can be poor. More attention is placed on recruiting strong front office staff, appears to be less selective for backoffice staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Incorporate 360 feedback for Director and Mananaging Director promotions process to ensure only managers who can direct and manage teams rather than please their own managers, are promoted.
