I worked at Credit Suisse as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Global company with a history of greatness. Exposure to a high caliber of talent with a proven business process. Great initial training program.

    Cons

Poor sustained management. Metrics over people mentality. Top producers not rewarded with loyalty. No transparent hiring/firing/promotion process. Too often roles and responsibilities shifted "Just Because". Trade floor personnel think that the world revolves around them and that they can talk to anyone in any kind of way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you tell a new hire that they will get promoted if they perform or if their numbers are in the top 10% then honor that. Especially if you are constantly giving out awards for their work. Do a better job of recognizing what your long term employee investments should be. Do a better job with the work life balance across the board, not just in the high visibility positions. Understand that not many people want to stay in the same position for more than 2 or 3 years without a promotion or legitimate opportunity to move into another role.
