I have been working at Crimson Consulting

Pros

The opportunities to consult with amazing clients and consulting professionals across a variety of technology and marketing topics are outstanding. Most of the work is local to Silicon Valley and is performed off-site which makes for good work/life balance (esp. for people with kids). For such a small company, Crimson maintains a world-class client base and engages in interesting projects.

Cons

Both clients and consultants often have unrealistic expectations about scope and fees of projects which can make it difficult to structure projects in a way that everyone perceives as fair. The company has had a lot of turn-over in recent years which makes it difficult to know how to resolve administrative/operational issues. It seems that often times Partners of Crimson build up solid practices and then transition out of Crimson.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in keeping solid contributors - especially those who own revenue producing practice areas. Avoid hiring/retaining those who seek to instill drama in every relationship and situation.

    I worked at Crimson Consulting

    Pros

Friendly support staff and the company's name isn't bad. The policy of working remotel for local clients is a big bonus, especially if you have kids. They have good clients (suprisingly).

    Cons

Highly highly disorganized. Partners have little knowlege of tech marketing and so they lean on their pool of contractors to do the real work. They believe in asserting authority versus collaborating. Working remotely has it's Cons as well---partners don't feel obliged to keep the team together and so working remotely provides and added strain.

Here is the biggest Con---they deliberately underestimate the amount the time required to do the assignment, and then don't pay you for all of your hours. The latter is the only thing that is consistent about Crimson.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out whether you wan to be a consulting firm or a recruiting firm. If it's the former, treat your contractors fairly to retain them and get rid of the con artists in your organization.
