Pros

You get time off to pursue a college education. Plenty of opprotunities for overtime. If worded right, experience can be used for an impressive resume. Almost impossible to lose your job (literally just show up) due to the bottom line and client mandates of personnel to be on-duty at any given time.

Cons

Completely random weekly schedule; you won't know what site you're working, what days you're working it or what time you'll be working until the day before the end of the current week-long schedule. There's a clique and if you aren't in it, they'll try to make you quit via the schedule and bullying. Heavily inflated and unjustified sense of self-worth and importance; they'll try to brainwash you into believing you're saving the world from terrorism when in reality you're just a glorified security guard with a firearm.

Advice to Management

Solidfy the schedule. Eliminate the clique.

    Pros

Decent pay compared to other security jobs. You will definitely get all the hour you want

    Cons

Management is terrible, you are just a means of getting greater contract money out of TECO. There are not enough people to fill all the spots, therefore you will work 60-70 hours a week quite often. Everyone at the company, management mostly, likes to pretend that they are some kind of "super security contracting operators" when in reality this is just a security guard job much like the old guy who sits at the bank. None of the higher ups can take any constructive criticism or any semblence of input from the guys in the field. If you have a complaint or an idea of how to make the facility you are at more secure keep it to yourself, they don't care how experienced you are or how much you have done in the world, they just want you there as window dressing to give people a false sense of security.

    Advice to Management

Realize that you are security guards and not Delta Force

  2. The best private sector public safety organization I have ever worked for

    Pros

High standards for hiring with a series of testing and interviews you typically don't see outside of law enforcement positions. Great training through their own training school with outstanding instructors. Officers go through a candidate training program with secondary weapons training and an actual Field Training period. There are a lot of opportunities for growth into supervisory opportunities, K9, executive protection, School Protection Officer Program, Public Safety Officer Program, Anti-Terrorism and a lot of free training. They even have bonuses to take certain training that they provide. They have a dispatch center(operations center), issued radios, brand new patrol vehicles and always updating their equipment. There are a lot of opportunities for overtime as they are always expanding services. Its great that you can apply for a supervisor position as soon as 120 days in service after you take certain classes, exams and attend a promotion board. The supervisors are really supportive and want to help develop their officers. They really make it a place to become a real career or use as a stepping stone into law enforcement.

    Cons

The work schedule can be very demanding with working some long shifts, weekends, holidays and nights. This is typical of the security industry.
