Former Employee - Senior Auditor in Dubai (United Arab Emirates)

I worked at Crowe Horwath full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Each branch of the firm is small so decisions are taken quickly. For people with caliber, it easier and faster to climb up the ladder.

Cons

Should hire more staff. Efforts should be made to provide more quality in audits. Since, its a service based industry, employees should be valued more. 6 day work week is too tiresome. Also, each branch of the firm has different rules and procedures.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Should hire more staff and make efforts to retain old staff.

    I worked at Crowe Horwath full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Received timely and appropriate training to allow me to keep current on new accounting pronoucements.

    Cons

    The Managers & Sr. Managers I worked for were unresponsive to emails and phone calls from me and even clients. These managers seemed to want me to fail. Focus by management is on meeting one's charge-hour budget but not exceeding each engagement's audit budget.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    A focus on teamwork and customer service (including internal customers) would improve the culture significantly.

    Disappointing - 2.5 stars. Needs to try harder

    I worked at Crowe Horwath full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    * Flexibility to work offsite - home, Starbucks, cabin in the woods (as the firm works to reduce costs by minimizing leased office space);
    * Acceptance of flex / reduced work schedules, although career potential is affected;
    * Benefits - a typical corporate package is available, although cost to the employee is fairly high;
    * Overall, the firm wants to be a good place to work but just needs work to rise above average;
    * Individual Partners were generally very approachable and nice people.

    Cons

    * Silos! Everywhere you look - I've never encountered a less helpful group of colleagues. It's as if one person's success would threaten everyone else, instead of also bolstering others' successes;
    * Initiative & creativity were not rewarded except by piling on more work. Doing huge volumes of work was also not rewarded, or even acknowledged.
    * Unless you're a star in a very profitable business line, raises and bonuses are mediocre, at best; negotiate the best salary you can going in because that starting point determines what follows.
    * 401(k) plan is poor - extremely unfavorable provisions regarding timing of employer matching funds and very narrow investment choices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    The firm knows it has to grow. Everything at Crowe - marketing, operations, client service, firm culture - is caught up in an internal battle between the provincialism of long time partners & staff who aren't that ambitious (or bright?) vs. others who have the drive and ideas to make successful growth happen. The resulting combination of tension and inertia affects everyone and colors everything. --> Good luck with that.
