I worked at Crowe Horwath

Pros

- Great benefits package including 20 days/year paid time off
- Good work-life balance
- Company culture is good--sponsored outings, training events, etc.

Cons

- Too many managers and not enough staff level consultants
- Excessive corporate-ness despite small consulting division--to advance at Crowe you must appear to be a "company man" and spout useless rhetoric.
- Tons of layoffs between 2008-2009 - college hires in several cases spent 9 months on the bench and were then fired.
- No raises and no bonus because of poor revenues in 2008-2009.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recruit with closer attention to the real demands of clients. Crowe hemorrhaged money from 2008-09 because too many people were hired and unrealistic growth was predicted.

The annual plan is not necessarily a good measure of a consultant's value to Crowe--to most staff, it is simply rhetorical.

    Pros

Very good onboarding experience and training and employee education departments. Also has very good information technology policies and helpful employees.

    Cons

Extremely insular culture on the department/line of business level. Promotion and bonus systems based on seniority, not wether or not someone has performed well or is better suited to the position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house and take a look at who is sitting at what desk. Some people need to be held accountable or move on.

    Pros

The only good things about Crowe is the the benefits. You get 4 weeks of PTO, Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401k. Their compensation is average if not below average. The staff and senior staff auditors are great individuals and you become friends outside of work.

    Cons

The Partners are cut throat. Just like any other firm. They could care less about you. If you are not making money for them then you are basically getting cut. Also when they lose clients you can be sure there will be rounds of firings.

Their evaluations are ridiculous and they base their final judgment on the individuals that give these evaluations. The chargeable hour goals are ridiculous to reach unless your working throughout they year and we all know that is impossible since there is downtime in the summer.

There is not much communication between Partner and the rest of the staff. You never know whats going on with the company in your office. People always talk about their job security while working here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to hold more meetings with their employees locally. Their expectations of reaching chargeable hours is Big 4 type when in reality the company is a middle market firm.

If you claim to be UNIQUE why does it seem like your trying to be like the Big 4?
