Current Employee - Programmer in Kiev (Ukraine)

I have been working at Crytek full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Hands down the best game-dev company in Ukraine
    - Company is doing good and growing rapidly
    - Awesome challenging project
    - Several bright and inspiring people to look up to
    - Friendly coworkers
    - Pretty flat hierarchy
    - Great working atmosphere
    - Nice but a little overcrowded office
    - Mature development process
    - A very good place to start your career
    - They will send you on GDC(E)s if you'll work hard

    Cons

    - Salary is below average, very small bonuses
    - No career growth, only small salary boost once a year if you're lucky
    - Appraisals are always pushed back due to the busy schedule, and currently there were none in 2 years
    - Engine is a like a handful of brilliant ideas covered in a thick layer of dirt
    - Many B-class employees that have no interest in professional growth, they are still good professionals but just seem to think they've reached the top and there's nothing else to learn
    - Many high rank workers seem unfit for the job, taking no responsibility on their decisions, this just demotivates you constantly
    - Middle management is useless and only creates obstacles in communicating problems
    - Company is constantly trying to solve problems caused by understaffed engineering teams by hiring more managers
    - No meaningful long-term planning
    - No investments in component architecture and reusability
    - Zero collaboration across offices
    - A lot of wheel reinventing attitude when comes to design

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more managers. This will definitely help us write code faster. *sarcasm*
