Current Employee - Lead in Frankfurt am Main (Germany)

I have been working at Crytek full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Some really talented individuals, and some of the projects look awesome
Tech is still strong
still focussed on quality
Interesting to be involved in free to play going forwards
Overtime now compensated with time off in lieu

Cons

Communication from exec management is not great. Yerlis delegate this to other people.
Salaries are ok for Europe, but can be better in the rest of the world

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Much better communication. Let people know what is going on, we are all interested, and sometimes we even like it.

I have been working at Crytek full-time

    Pros

Exciting projects, talented people, focus on quality, visionary leader, CEOs who are down to earth, love games and say hello to you in the corridor. Lots of creative freedom and plenty of work to be done on different roles on different projects - great opportunities to move into different fields if you have the skill and drive. Crunch time is better managed now and is compensated. Frankfurt is a clean, safe, affordable city and the pay is decent. Solid track record and a relatively stable company in an unstable industry.

    Cons

Promition/hires to decision making positions seem too often based on appearance of ability than actual ability. Sometimes chaotic management. Little support in professional development - training, salary/skill reviews, etc. Cross-company anxiety about the future - few people seem to want to make the kind of games the company is planning to make.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to your staff more - find out what they want, and who they want to work with and for.

I worked at Crytek full-time for less than a year

    Pros

+ There are still some tallented and awesome people left at Crytek
+ If you are lucky you may have some time for R&D
+ It's easy to get hired (don't get fooled by the job requirements)

    Cons

    - Management & HR is very bad - no clear goals, no focused effort, chaos and randomness.
    - At the interview they make it look a lot better than it really is.
    - Influence of the old "core team" is way to large and is usually limited to blocking anything that may undermine their position.
    - Salaries are on the low side.
    - They lost the edge with their technology and have no idea how to improve it, does not look optimistic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Close the company and start over - it will be better for everyone.
