I have been working at Cummins full-time for more than a year

Pros

Ability to explore other career opportunities within the company mostly if you know senior folks that like you

Cons

-Cummins really don't have any career culture for young engineers, your growth depends on who you know not how hard you perform.
-The older white males still have a small town mentality(if you're a colored person, you definitely know what i mean)
-Minorities and foreign employees get kick out first despite performance... Just so you know, these happens every 2yrs.
-Columbus is still 10yrs behind civilization despite the diverse population
-Over all, you should never work for cummins for more than two-five yrs unless you're WHITE with a small town mentality.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Let those old retirees go, give young engineers a chance. Stop hiring minorities in numbers just so you can let them go at every wimp. Finally your rating and ranking system sucks.

Former Employee - Customer Care Advisor in Pittsburgh, PA

I worked at Cummins full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Used to be a great place to work. Everything changed and the focus moved to reports, graphs and charts, not the customer

    Cons

Did not listen to long employed people, just changed how they took care of customers. Did not understand.the difference in industrial, power generation, and truck shop customers. There is a huge difference between them.

Former Employee - Performance Engineer in Columbus, IN

I worked at Cummins full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Competitive Salary
    - Relocation Assistance
    - Visa Sponsorhip
    - Affinity groups
    - Diverse environment
    - Different career paths available

    Cons

    - You will end up working more than 40 hours per week and even weekends (Unpaid extra hours)
    - Expect to learn everything by yourself. Trainings provide some basic knowledge, but you will end up asking a lot of people how to do a single task.
    - Too many politics involved between the unions and the company, and even between different groups inside Cummins.
    - Managers will be unavailable to help you most of the time because they have to attend meetings all days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please do not start hiring people by hundreds if after one year they will be laid off from their positions even without a performance review. I still do not get how laying off people helps the company to improve their financial goals if later on they will start hiring again and invest more money on them with relocation expenses, visa sponsorhip, etc.
