I worked at Cummins full-time (less than a year)

Pros

Cummins is a great company to work for. Cummins has a diverse work force. Cummins allows its employees to work on a very flexible basis. Cummins has a huge corporate social responsibility goal.

Cons

Cummins recruiting process is very laid back. The HR is not sure when they need the specific candidate to hire. Even after the offer is given they take a long time to confirm all the details.

I have been working at Cummins full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great projects, very analytically focused company. If you like data based decisions this is the company for you.

    Cons

Corporate can be cut throat. The knives can come out when you least expect it. Very relationship focused and it is important for your individual success

A great place if you don't want to be mentally challenged and just fill a cubicle for 30 years

I have been working at Cummins full-time

    Pros

    - very serious about cultural diversity
    - generous in sponsoring H1B visas (2nd highest concentration in the US per capita)
    - great place to raise children
    - Everyone is very friendly and agreable
    - Chance to get involved in a lot of projects

    Cons

    - All locations are be in remote small towns except for Beijing, Wuhan, and Pune offices
    - Senior leadership appears to lack a long term vision, and bows to Wall Street analysts
    - Six Sigma has morphed from being a useful tool set to being a cult. Meanwhile the practitioners are ignorant of basic statistics.
    - HR considers engineers to be a commodity, and does not hire "the best and brightest." As a result, many of the best people have simply left out of frustration, and HR has just shrugged their collective shoulders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop treating engineering like a cost center, and start getting serious about quality. Otherwise, one day the Chinese and Indian OEM's will make Cummins into a penny stock.
