I worked at D&B

Pros

Great benefits; open door policy for feedback between manager and employee- happens quarterly; great product to sell; very professional and uncapped commissions

Cons

i can't think of too many; the only one that stands out is that they consistently make you take tests to apply your learning; this is a good thing but gets a little old

Advice to ManagementAdvice

keep hiring wonderful people; i love the 360' feedback model and always think i was heard; wish i hadn't left

Good company for people who can focus on short term goals and not get frustrated by the lack of long term thinking.

I have been working at D&B

    Pros

The company rewards those who are successful at meeting their targets. People who are able to concentrate on hitting the goals that have been set for them and are successful at reaching their targets can move up quickly in the organization.

    Cons

A flip side of the company doing whatever it takes to hit stated goals is that many times the need to hit short term targets overrides any other concerns. Although the company is very good at hitting short term goals, whatever it takes, it does so at the expense of longer term performance. There are many times when something that is very clearly good for D&B in the long run is avoided because the gains will not be realized within the next quarter or six months.

D&B is also risk-averse to a fault, which can be frustrating for people who see great opportunities for the company that are missed because the returns are not 100% guaranteed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management is extremely good at hitting short term goals but (in my opinion) is making huge long-term sacrifices for the sake of very small short-term gains.

My advice would be to act with more of a long-term focus and not sacrifice so much strategically in order to meet short term targets.

Not everybody's a winner in D&B's "winning culture".

    I worked at D&B

    Pros

Great namebrand recognition and a leader in the industry. Relatively stable stock price. There are also a lot of pretty experienced/intelligent associates amongst the ranks.

    Cons

Poorly defined roles and responsibilities make it difficult for people to get their jobs done. Extremely long hours for team members on the West Coast caught between offshore locations and New Jersey. Typical corporate politics with everybody trying to impress their boss, or point fingers to deflect blame.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do things to enable effective and efficient teamwork. Realize that past success has been on the backs of hard-working individuals who get things done despite the uncoordinated and factory-like mentality.
