I worked at D2L full-time

Pros

-One of the best places to work in Ontario.
-I worked on the mobile team and it was a blast from day one to the day I left.
-Credit has to go to HR, senior members of the product planning team and the mobile team. If you get a chance to work with the 2 latter teams take it.
-Location is fantastic
-You are armed with a vast array of tools to do your job and be successful.

Cons

-The exec team gets a lot of flack and for good reason.
-The benefits package needs to be improved...by a considerable margin.
-Despite it being a "new age" technology company there isn't a lot of transparency.
-A very paranoid legal team.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you're hiring talented people, give them some slack and let them do their job. They have a vested interest in the success of the company and they need that free reign and decision-making prowess to help you maintain your competitive advantage.

    I have been working at D2L full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Comfortable work environment, fun games, dogs are allowed in the office, casual dress code, flexible hours, good team building company outings and events, open workspace with minimal walls

    Cons

    lack of direction from management and executive level, middle management has lack of experience in growing a company from a start-up to a multi-national, managers and exec's are micro-managers resulting in any experienced individuals to leave and move onto larger companies, pay is well below high-tech market in KW, good-ol-boy's sales team, and all men directors and VP's with the exception on HR (both director and manager HR are married to other high level employees), all software training is Do-It-Yourself if you want to be demo ready for Prospects, no documentation and lots of P2P sharing of knowledge so unless you're "in the loop" you're lost, high turn-over (esp in Sales)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Work on better hiring practices, and stop micromanaging employee's with more experience than you. If you worked as hard on building growth strategies and mapping for employees as you did for accounts, you might have a better retention rate of good people. Biggest shortfall of Desire2Learn is hiring and keeping good talent
