I have been working at DC Public Schools

    Pros

There is so much to learn and to contribute. It is a huge mess that needs to be fixed.

    Cons

DCPS Senior management does not listen to middle management or the regular employee. They are hardly out at schools and sit in "ivory tower." Departments are silo-ed so its difficult to work between departments. There is no long term planning and there is no employee development like at neighboring school districts. The attrition rate is high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees and don't stay cloistered on the 12th floor. It is very rare to see you walking the halls. Care about retaining and training employees for the future leadership and care of the school district. Share long term plans with the rest of the staff instead of putting out fires all the time.
