I worked at DIRECTV as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

As a contractor, absolutely nothing. You are not entitled to any benefits until you are full-time. Except you never will be full-time since AT&T is purchasing DIRECTV.

    Cons

    -Was a contractor through TekSystems.
-First day was delayed one week so that I would be set up with computer.
-First day arrives and I have no computer.
-Repeated requests for various access to servers to no avail
-Three weeks in, still didn't have access to SVN repo.
-General questions regarding their enterprise software could not be answered
-No one is ever available, everyone is too busy
-Boss leaves for Argentina two weeks in, leaving no assignments or objectives.
-AT&T is buying DIRECTV, and hiring contractors almost exclusively. Do the math.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of [name censored] He is the most inept and idiotic manager I have ever encountered. He has almost no technical knowledge, social skills, nor organizational sense.

Also, enjoy hiring on contractors while knowing full-well that they'll be canned as soon as the AT&T finishes its takeover.

I have been working at DIRECTV full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Amazing culture
    - Everyone is always happy
    - Collaborative culture
    - Good benefits and compensation
    - Very employee focused
    - Very strong sense of social responsibility
    - Lots of opportunity for development and advancement
    - Transparency and communication within the company
    - Best in Class employee engagement based on most recent Organizational Health Survey
    - Top 10 Best Places to Work in Denver

    Cons

    - Still could use some standardization between departments
    - Sometimes there is not a consistency with the title a person holds and the work that they do
    - Benefits kick in the first of the month after 60 days. It would be nice if that were shortened

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With the AT&T deal ongoing, continue to cascade information down through the ranks. You have done a great job so far so continue in that vain.
