DISH Network – “Being led by the nose.”
1 of 1 people found this helpfulPros
The best reason to work at Dish is you get to work with some truly exceptional individuals at the ground level. Natural problem solvers with common sense. Great people are installing dish service.
Cons
Once you get above GM at an office no one uses any common sense. They're all afraid for their jobs because the VP of the division is a jackass who has no experience with the field side of the business, unless you consider a couple ride alongs experience. Failure to comply with useless directives gets you fired. Can you say MICROMANAGEMENT? Decisions that should be left to field managers is addressed by upper management, and poorly, and it ends up handicapping the guy with a wrench. Rather than let field techs develop and become actual professionals they'd rather limit people to basics, thus limiting their skill set. Venture outside the proscribed method and get written up, whether or not it's an improvement.
Feed back is encouraged, as long as it agrees with the company line. No dissent will be tolerated, any question they don't want to answer leads to attacking the person with the question.
Advice to Senior Management
Give from the GM of a facility on down room to breathe. Let local managers actually manage instead of hustling to fulfill paperwork mandates. Open actual lines of communication instead of the ridiculous web page that answers nothing. Give a facility goals and leave them to meet them. Get input from people at the field level and actually listen.
