Pros

Hard working personnel with technical knowledge to perform their jobs.
Lowest level of management is very good.
Technical challenges provide learning experiences.
Education benefits & opportunities exist inside & outside the company.

Cons

Senior level management is extremely poor. Comments about them acting only to stuff their pockets is right on the money. Isn't that an appropriate phrase for assessing their greedy actions. Mid level management is often following in their footsteps to keep their jobs and increase their power. My experience with immediate supervisors has been excellent.
Defense budget woes make the career opportunities ratings to be difficult to assess. Defense industry has always had its ups and downs.
Advice on interpreting ratings:
Some DRS sites are poor choices; some are good. Check the location of the reviewer (including myself).
Look at comments and compare them to the rating.
Of course, check the position of the reviewer and whether they are current or former employees. Some positives and negatives are obvious.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look in the mirror. As much as you tell empoyees that you care about them, they know that this is not true. The only one who benefits from a layoff is the upper management who receives bonuses for reducing costs. Your decisions compensate peoples lives. Some compensations cause the fortunate ones to work harder due to lack of manpower to meet deadlines; and some by having to find employment in a very dismal unemployment scenario. Some of these people's lives are destroyed.
Judge your people fairly and reward those who perform.
Be able to identify and differentiate between those that are there to please you, and those that are working to help the company: all employees at all levels.
Get a true judgement of your performance: Ask your employees through questionnaires/surveys that allow for comments. These should be done in a manner that the employees' responses cannot be traced back to them, i.e., not through the company network. Do not contract an outside organization to provide the survey. These often hide or evade some areas that need more specific attention.

I worked at DRS Technologies full-time

    Pros

    Tactical Systems
Compensation good for the area. If you can join the "club" you can get exposure to a lot of different areas of the company.

    Cons

Management is good ole boy. If you aren't in the club there is no future regardless of skills or unpaid overtime worked to support the project.
No communication from the GM or upper management.
Business appears to be on sharp decline with heavy layoffs occurring. This is before the defense budget cuts that will be coming from congress. More will come if they don't get new business quickly!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Break up "the club". People being kept are not the best, and a few are the worst. Look directly at skills not whether they are a buddy.
