I have been working at DSCI full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

The company has a wonderful 401k and education reimbursement policy, pay is above defense contractor average. At a company of over 800 employees, only about 5 or 6 people are related to the CEO and only one of them is upper management, the rest are everyday employees. So first and foremost, the claims of nepotism are clearly exaggerated. The companies stock is at the highest its been during my tenure (almost 6 years), and the company is pursuing and winning more contracts than ever. The CEO started this company from basically nothing, lost it briefly to investors a few years ago, and was brought back in with overwhelming support by the employee stockholders. Clearly these 20 or so comments about the CEO and nepotism are outweighed by the other 800 employees who truly understand how much the CEO cares for the company and employees.

Cons

While there is more job security in the corporate side, those working in the other divisions are treated to a different standard (shorter hours, higher pay for same work). Unfortunately contracts run their course and end, and layoffs are made. This does create a frantic environment for job security, but a large portion of the employees seem to find other work in the company until the next contract.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to save money, look to get rid of those in management roles instead of cutting corners and penny pinching for the worker bees. Many of the upper staff have no clear job there and are making some real good money and remain there for years until the CEO realizes the company is bleeding money for these useless positions given to people on past merit that never comes to fruition.

    Pros

None. Benefits average for Defense Industry.

    Cons

The building in Eatontown is a converted Health Care Equipment warehouse that the CEO bought on the cheap then tried to convert to an office building. It didn't work. Terrible ventilation, light, kitchens and bathrooms. You have to pay a monthly fee to the company to use the gym and the rules are so ridiculous hardly anyone does. Management and company are unethical throughout. Nepot

    Pros

    Good 401(k) match policy
    Competitive healthcare match
    Competitive starting pay

    Cons

Claims of nepotism are no exaggeration - positive posts and denials are likely the work of top management or cronies. If you watch the site, the positive postings change regularly, but they don't grow. (Compare with other defense contractors if you need perspective). The reviewers are neither deadwood nor washouts. Every company has malcontents, but if this one has so many, there must be something wrong in HR.

I've seen every "con" listed above. There are no exaggerations here. The only accounts I haven't seen yet are those of the 8:00am employee lockout and badge confiscation, or the mandatory meeting under threat of immediate termination back in July 2012. I'm surprised they haven't been mentioned - Or the retroactive policy blocking pay increases if you missed deadline on more than two timesheet entries during the year. The accounts of belittling, abuse, and stock shenanigans are all true.

The company has had problems with the customer community and has used the contracts and reputations of bought-out subsidiaries to dodge the issue.

The sad thing is that financial backers marginalized the current CEO a few years back, but employee stockholders rallied to the call out of fear that the company would be sold and gutted. There had been hope that lessons would be learned, but things only got worse.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Step back, put your pride in your pocket, and hire proven leaders. Let them do the job and enjoy the rewards. Pride goes before the fall.
