I have been working at DSW part-time (More than a year)

Pros

very flexible with hours and picking up shifts

Cons

the managers are too obsessed with getting rewards it makes the associates uncomfortable its a very easy job and at some points verrry boring, so if the people and managers aren't good it can make the shift feel like days

Advice to Management

relax about rewards

I worked at DSW full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Discount, company values, and some of the associates including LP and management.

    Cons

No real room for growth, a lot of hypocrisy, a lot of illogical practices, too much pressure on reward signups. I've seen a lot more managers quit before sales associates do. Most part-timers have 2 jobs because you simply cannot live off of DSW's hours alone.

I have been working at DSW part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

very flexible work schedule, ideal if you're still in school. managers for the most part are very nice and understanding. its a good starting job out of high school, they start you off around $8 an hour, but i wouldn't make a career out of it.

    Cons

very little growth in the company, they choose to higher from the outside for higher positions. DSW like most retailers is always open, except for christmas day and thanksgiving this makes family time some what scarce. Theres seems to be a lack of communication between management and associates, one manager might tell you one thing and another quite the opposite. You are at times pushed to make unrealistic goals, such as signing up customers for their rewards program, or trying to push products on customers which they may not need nor want, and if you fail regardless of the circumstances it is your fault.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring people from the outside who don't know what they're doing, there are plenty of associates that could do a better job if you gave them the chance.
