I worked at Daimler Trucks North America

    Pros

There's a lot going on within Daimler so the POTENTIAL to be exposed to several interesting developments does exist. It's a big place and well-rooted in Portland. Your colleagues and co-workers are likely to be great people with much to offer. You'll have to work your standard 60 hours per week plus an extra 20 chasing that carrot to make it happen, unless you're German.

    Cons

Getting what you were promised is like pulling teeth. The management structure is far too tall and the leaders are great at producing profits and good at nothing else. Don't expect them to believe that though. They'll blow smoke about the importance of diversity and cooperation and suggestions and empowerment and forward thinking and demonstrate not a drop. It's PR focused inward which makes one wonder just what kind of lies they must tell customers to produce sales.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You've raised the bar and your employees have responded. Now DEMONSTRATE appreciation by trusting and supporting them. Granting the opportunities employees deserve to consultants instead is very damaging to employee morale. Stop producing guidelines without teeth. Until, you SHOW that you're serious about changes it's all just distracting noise. Your employees read The Toyota Way and the 7 Habits and it only cemented their embarrassment for who runs their company. It short term profits are all you care about then be brave enough to be honest about it. Learn to make decisions and stick by them. You don't have to be right all the time but you do have to be honest. You tell your employees you want them to be leaders. Don't you think they want the same from you?

I have been working at Daimler Trucks North America

    Pros

The company is young and has the ability to grow immensely, they have the territory and stability to be a top sales player in the Diesel engine industry. The mechanics are some of the best in the industry and the parts dept employees are all well informed and in tune with the shop and its customers.

    Cons

The are too big for their britches, they are busting at the seams. The problem with being a family owned franchise here is that they own the land the building is on and the company is trying to grow, which can and will a lot if given the space to do so. Compensation not the best either.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a new building, trust your employees and communicate better with them. The mechanics know what they are doing and need to be trusted more instead of micromanaged.
