    Pros

The Dana-Farber Cancer institute cares about its patients and physicians. As an employee you get a decent benefits package.

    Cons

However, postdoctoral fellows doing just research get very little respect from the institute... The most clear example is when you get your own funding through a fellowship or grant; instead of being congratulated for the achievement, you are deprived of all your benefits. Very disappointing. Not to mention the outdated installations...

Not the best place to work, for sure...

    Pros

DFCI has a noble mission - to provide treatment for cancer patients as well as research new avenues toward understanding and treating this disease.

    Cons

I've experienced a great number of inept, if not malicious, management practices here. When issues arise, the HR department is the last place to go. They simply do NOT support the average employee.
Compensation - salaries paid are definitely on the low end of the scale. Benefits are so-so, they used to offer a variety of health care plans, but now have downgraded to just the Harvard Pilgrim HMO//PPO plan. They eliminated the Retirement Plan that the Institute used to pay into for Professional Staff.
One more pet-pieve - Dana-Farber does not recognize Patriot's Day as a Holiday, so for all of those employees running or volunteering for the Jimmy Fund in the Boston Marathon - tough luck, you have to use up a vacation day to participate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to work with people - lift them up and help them to grow.
Threats and punitive attitudes are completely uncalled for.
