Daptiv Employee Review
Daptiv – “Daptiv becoming a great place to work again”
0 of 2 people found this helpfulPros
In the last year, Daptiv has had a complete management change over. The new management is great! There is actually respect and collaboration between departments. Morale has improved and it's becoming a fun place to work again. In addition, Daptiv was recently was acquired by Parallax, which has been positive so far. The company is profitable, there seems to be much more focus, and the new owners are very interested in the business.
Additional pros:
* Engineering is revitalized and innovative again.
* A strong emphasis on quality. Engineering management wants you to be proud of what you put into production and it shows.
* Great work/life balance. It's all about the commitment to backlog, not the hours. We work hard, but management understands that we have families and responsibilities outside of work.
* Good mentoring. There are some strong developers here and a strong belief in pair programming.
* Location - In the heart of downtown Seattle. I have many commuting options.
Cons
More of an uncertainty than a con - The new leadership (Parallax) has been good so far, but I fear based on Daptiv's history, that we will become rudderless once again if we don't stay focused.
Other cons:
* A few departments within Daptiv are not embracing the new leadership
* Our HR system is horrible, though there's rumor that it will be replaced soon
* Benefits are so-so. I guess it's good for a small company, but I'm used to big company benefits.
Advice to Senior Management
The new leadership from Parallax needs to communicate the direction we are heading a bit more in a concise way. Daptiv is becoming a great place again and a strong focus will solidify the company.

Inappropriate?
Maybe I'm sheltered from what's going on in other departments of Daptiv, and their current management, but Engineering management has been very supportive of developer driven initiatives, including a number of initiatives to focus on the core PPM product, tackling some of the tough legacy issues management of the past was not willing to tackle. It's refreshing, challenging, and healthy. They have also encouraged us to act more like a "DevOps" organization and have removed the barriers between us, NetOps and Support, which is why the statement in the original post of "respect and collaboration between departments".

Parallax is a horrible group of phonies to work for...and I'm primarily speaking of ownership and all levels of management.
The company claims to be increasing revenue year over year, though sales are way down and people who can find a job are leaving ASAP. In 2009 client retention was claimed to be at 90 percent for renewals and now even Parallax admits in 2010 that number had fallen to 80 percent. So exactly how are they claiming a profit? They're only claiming any sort of gains through employee attrition, which is very high.
The company did have promise at one point many years ago and was a decent place to work depending on who your division manager was, though now the new CEO and other managing partners are pathetic. They’re a phony bunch from Orange County, especially the woman responsible for all HR related issues.
The people who are still there in engineering had signed bonuses for staying, however those were paid out in January. I know of NOT a single Daptiv employee who isn't looking for a job or at the very least hates working there. The sales team are all looking for jobs and the only people still working in sales were recently given raises in an effort to get them to stay, however that’s not even enough to maintain staff. The recently demoted VP of Sales was nothing short (pun intended) of a joke, yet Parallax in all their wisdom let him stay on for nearly a year as sales talent flew out the door.
If you speak to recruiters they'll tell you Daptiv is the "employer of last resort for the terminally unemployed." The only people they're hiring are folks who've been out of work sometimes for years. It doesn't necessarily mean they're bad people, though they were desperate. Even they know the company is a joke.
If the company is still around next year, most of us who have seen the books will be shocked.
