I have been working at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center

Pros

Good place to intern.
People are willing to help you learn and gain insight.
Facilities are nice.
People are nice.

Cons

Huge Hierarchy and DHMC is very disorganized. It's hard to make change in the environment because of the disorganization and the hierarchy.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

More oversight.
Make sure initiatives are evidence-based and worthwhile, and make sure they are followed through on (most of the time they aren't).

I have been working at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center

    Pros

Great location, friendly workforce, academic medical center, healthcare leader, decent compensation, so-so benefits, very good reputation, newer facility,

    Cons

Very poorly run from an administrative standpoint. Huge gap between C-level and rest of organization. No clear strategy and no execution plan. Silos don't communicate nor work well with one another. Dysfunctional management across the board. Extremely poor internal communications. No performance management, No defined career path, and No succession planning. No management nor leadership training. Known in the community as a "mom and pop" shop, as business processes are extremely immature (ineffective governance, lack of financial controls, lack of corporate standards).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire external, competent C-1 leadership (VPs). C-level needs to develop and communicate a clear strategy. C-1 (missing in action) needs to take this as marching orders and galvanize workforce in achieving an clearly defined and communicated execution plan.
