I have been working at Dave & Buster's full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Fun environment, high energy, room for growth if you are willing to relocate to one of the 60 stores throughout the U.S.

    Cons

In operations, extremely long hour expected, Management styles vary from store to store. Culture has been lost and corporatized over the past recent years. More focus on training and development is needed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your biggest asset, your employees by way of training and support- communication throughout the stores is extremely lacking which does not provide the tools to set your employees and management up for success.

Had culture when it was privately owned, now it's all about increasing revenue.

    I worked at Dave & Buster's full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers & support system at the colleague level.

The business model is unique and appealing... overall, they will pretty much always do alright, servers and bartenders have a lot of opportunity to make a lot of tip money.

Sales people, if doing their job right... can easily hit their budgets.

If you are a person that is happy with job security and the status quo, it's an alright place to work. If you have aspirations and drive to do more and be promoted, don't get sucked in.

    Cons

There is a lot of talk about oportunities for advancement but very little opportunity for any. A lot of favoritism and encouraged gossip from upper management/corporate office.

The corporate office does very little to concern with what is really going on at the store and would rather in corporate survey's see all positive reviews (which are forced by management to give - because the GM can win a contest for best survey results) than to hear what the real feedback is.

The sales bonus structure has decreased over the past years, the better you do in sales the more incentives they take back.

Salary increases once you are internal are minimal. They would rather hire unexperienced people and promote unexperienced personal to minimize pay... resulting in poor management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't just talk about trust.. give trust. Respect all employees.. Don't just pretend to be concerned with what's occurring at operation level... be concerned. Doing a "secret" VP visit only works if it's really a secret... when the stores are alerted first, it does nothing but pass stress from top management for everyone to be on best behavior and don't say anything negative.
