David's Bridal – “Not A Bad Place to Work- Just Not Great Either”
Pros
Surrounded by beautiful dresses!
You make strong friendships with co-workers
Some of the managers can be amazing and very helpful
The training provides enough information to get you started selling
20% discount on all items
So gratifying to help a bride pick their perfect dress!
The trunk show is alot of fun because they let the employees model
Cons
Management at the top is very rude and disrespectful to new employees, but friendly to veteran or seasoned workers
Every night at closing you must clean the entire store, and they'll make everyone stay late if it isn't satisfactory
Floor is very hard- it's cement with a rug on top you must wear flats at all times...seriously
Customers try to "bargain" with us as if David's Bridal is a yard sale. Our merchandise is quality, and you need to remember we can't lower the price. We clean and repair all damages and stains, sorry, no discount
Employees who sell the dress must also do the pressing, cleaning, steaming and dye any accesories (shoes, purses etc.) and must sometimes come in on days off to do this
It's long hours- and time off must be requested exactly two weeks in advance or it won't go though
If it's very busy in the store they will give you two to three brides to cater to at the same time- what bride wants that? Divided attention loses sales!
Bra room needs more of the popular size bras- sometimes every size needed is being utilized
I've been working there quite a while and yet never get a platform room (only the side rooms). That's extremely unfair; they should rotate between employees
There is no room for advancement
For the pay, (which is $1.50 more than min. wage), we are grossly overworked. Comission is sadly a joke here. We get one but its very teeny.
Bottom Line: If you are perhaps looking for a part time, mid-life job with minimal incentives, than I guess this works for you. I love the dresses and helping the customers, but that's about it.
Advice to Senior Management
You need to tell managers everywhere to not belittle or breath down the necks of the employees
Focus on a system so that items can't be stolen
Offer a nicer break room and bathroom facilities- your employees work so hard, when they need a break they should at least have decent places to go
Give more updates about new dresses coming into the store
Is it possible to add plush rugs to the floors???
Just honestly remember to give incentives to the employees.
