I have been working at DeLaval

Pros

Many great people to work with. The dairy industry is a very challenging area to work with, that includes a large variety of customers. Many great products over the years have been sold. Challenging work!

Cons

Over the past several years management (upper level) has degraded from previous management in areas of general competence and responsiveness. Difficult to obtain promotions within product management areas if located in US, without being European. Frequent change of organizational structure. Lack of urgency in response to market needs by product management which is located in Sweden.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus less on constantly changing organizational structures and more on getting the right people in the right positions. DeLaval is losing a huge amount of product and market knowledge personnel thinking that they can replace this talent easily, which is not the case particularly within the Dairy Industry.

  2. I worked at DeLaval

    Pros

Decent pay for industry and decent product line

    Cons

No room for advancement unless you are corporate. All managers are younger with no dairy, agriculture or sales experience, yet they are the bosses. They are paid $125,000 plus with $10,000 plus bonuses, while you worry about losing job and have deals killed and ruined by management that has no idea how to sell or deal with agriculture customers. Company fires employees who have been there forever and will let you go the closer you are to retirement. They push their products and ride you about not making sales, even though they are not competitive on most of their products. Heard several over the years that customers should expect to pay at least 10% more just because it says DeLaval on it. That mentality may have worked years ago, but In today's market, competitions are almost equal if not equal on product offerings. The dairy market is a shrinking and a mentality like delavals with kill a business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire people who actually know he market and have worked in agriculture and not brown nosers who have accounting or logistic degrees to run sales. Treat employees better and develops a training program and allow employees to attend, this will help employees know what to do and meet the expectations set for them. If here is no feedback to an employees until the day they are let to, there can be no positive growth in a company. Please spread the wealth that is currently very top end heavy at your company. Corporate and management make all the money. Me the sales and service employees who do all he work and keep the company running (and work all he hours, sometimes 60-80 hrs) suffer with low wages and very little appreciation. Have seen mass turnover rates at dealerships, some rates as high as 80% plus over 1-2 years.
