Pros

DeVry Online- I teach for DVUO as an adjunct (contractor) and have had nothing but good experiences with them. They pay higher than most for online teaching and have very good support systems in place and training for faculty. The new faculty training is the best I've seen. Faculty managers are supportive and back their faculty members, yet keep the students' fairness in mind. For instance, if plagiarism or other academic violations occur DVUO takes action. They may be a "for profit" institution but they *do* have high academic standards. I would recommend other online instructors to DeVry (although it's a lot harder to "get in" now than it was a few years ago due to the explosion of competition).

Cons

Maybe a bit more personalized recognition for the top-notch faculty members. I also hear rumblings on the faculty conference calls about it having been several years since pay was increased for adjuncts. We also hear "compliants" about lifting the credit hour teaching limit, but have been told it's being worked on. However, it seems to be taking quite a while so it would be nice if there was some progress on this one. Overall, though, DVUO is a wonderful place to teach.

Advice to Management

Maybe do anonymous feedback surveys from the adjuncts to hear more about concerns/suggestions and implement ideas to the extent possible. There are many talented instructors out there who will probably have some great ideas!!

    Pros

You are kidding me?! In the beginning everything seems great. A lot of support and excellent service to society and changing lives through education.

    Cons

After a while, the smog if lies disappear and you understand the true business side to the education factor. They truly should practice what they supposedly preach in accordance to their own benefit.
Micromanagement and fear producing tactics to generate more enrollments are at it's best!
Incompetent management and always bending their own policies.
If you dare to speak up- be ready to be written up or put in a plan
Chicago location run by all women- so prepare for drama and deceit all day long.
Best part of the job: their office is swarming with bed bugs.
Lol, enter at your own risk

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing so you can be shut down soon. No one should give their hard earned money to GREEDY for profit schools- so fingers crossed the society rids you if your unproductive scam of a brighter future to our young generation.

    Pros

    -Excellent insurance benefits
    -Reputable name
    -Some positions are entry level
-Internal opportunities can be afforded to you
    -Nationwide location, large network
-Can "buy" time off once per year
-Referrals for hires get you cash bonuses if they stay with the company
-No commission, just hourly or salary pay
    -FlexWork is available

    Cons

-Takes too long to promote in most departments
-Pay increases when receiving promotions are not too substantial
-Does not take enough risks, always plays it safe
-Not a lot of opportunities for management if you don't like hard data and being held to tough metrics
    -Micromanaging is prevalent

    Advice to Management

You will most likely be micromanaged from the top coming down. There is not a lot of interdepartmental communication either, which makes things difficult at times. ADA's do a LOT of work on a salaried check that doesn't account for enough of the work they do.
