Very redundant work, with no real incentives to advance.

I have been working at DeVry University

Pros

Good work-life balance. Good benefits, especially if you are looking to go to school. After 6 months of employment DeVry will cover 100% of your tuition and 90% of a dependents tuition.

Cons

Very redundant work. Management tries to run the business as if it were a commission paying position which wouldn't be bad if it were a commission position but it is not. There is no incentive, but all of the pressure to perform. Many of the managers have very poor management skills, and since they are younger with no prior management experience, they tend to micro-manage, and do not know how to truly motivate their staff.

Advice to Management

Come up with some real incentives for performing well, and do a better job of vetting potential Assistant Directors. Do not promote Assistant Directors based on the number of students they register, but on the management, and leadership abilities that they posses.

    Pros

In short, Benefits are good (healthcare, dental, vision, 401K, Profit Sharing, etc.), Salary is more than competitive for the industry (starting 40-43K/year), Very valuable training and skill development in this position. Skills translate into: RECRUITING, SALES, MARKETING, CALL CENTER MANAGEMENT, ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT, HUMAN RESOURCES, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, etc.

    Cons

Morale is somewhat negative. Many disgruntled colleagues because of lack of advancement opportunities. Hours can be inconvenient and schedules are particularly inflexible. 9-6 M-Th with 1 late night (10-8), out at 4 on Fridays, and one mandatory Saturday per month. Also, this job is very monotonous, 3 years in and the job responsibilities have not changed much.

    Advice to Management

Recognize leadership to promote to management rather than promoting recruiting talent. Just because someone recruits well does not mean that they are an effective leader.

I have been working at DeVry University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lot of overtime. work as much as you can but have no personal life.

    Cons

Extremely poor management. Every thing is top notch secret from the employee including their health benefit

    Advice to Management

Be clear with your employees about what's coming even new system being introduced instead of just dropping changes 10 times a day and no advance notice. it is insane.
