Pros

DealerSocket has great leaders that actively engaged in the day-to-day, really care about their employees, ethical, open door policy and fun. DealerSocket is know for its Culture which has been formed by the leaders and continued by the people we have added. Almost 80% of employees come from referrals. Half of the current employees have been with company over 2 years and 25% have been with company over 4 years which should tell you people like to work here. DealerSocket is also know for its Superior Product in the industry.

Cons

As with any startup there are growth issues, not a clear define advancement ladder but advance comes to people who are successful and hard working. Majority of promotions come from within as needs arise. As the company grows space has also been an issue but has improved now they have 2 buildings and in future are moving into a larger building.

Advice to Management

Continue to keep us informed of company's results, current plan, and future goals. Have another all employee gathering.

    Pros

    - Agile
    - Casual attire
    - Near the beach

    Cons

    - Physical location (too far south from most of OC)
    - Old, rundown building
    - Lack of space / overcrowded
    - Obvious trend of hiring and promoting people with the same religious affiliation
    - Extremely slow and hard to use end-user products
    - High turnover rate of employees
    - Micro-management / inability to let others make decisions
    - Creativity and innovation is neither encouraged nor nurtured
    - Outdated hardware, software, code-base, and engineering best-practices
    - Convoluted bonus structure / no annual salary bonus
    - Lack of bathrooms / bathroom shared with kitchen
    - Lack of parking

    Advice to Management

    - Actions speak louder than words
    - Stop boasting about annual revenue and start throwing it at what your employees say they need to do their job well (e.g., hardware and a new building)
    - Don't claim you'll reward employees with a bonus and then change the rules along the way just to avoid awarding the bonus
    - Hire competent, motivated people who excel at what they do, and then give them the freedom to make decisions
    - Don't just hire and promote people who share the same religious affiliation
    - Stop hiring interns, neighbors, and the kids of people you know
    - After 10+ years, it's time to stop acting like a startup

    Pros

    - bagels on Fridays
    - close to the ocean if you like to surf

    Cons

    - there is no reward for innovation. If you are a skilled professional of many years you will work alongside the highschool or college family members of the executives.
    - Developers have to work till all hours of he morning during deployment but are still expected to come in at 8am sharp (once you've gone home and slept for a whole 3 hours)
    - The bathroom is in the kitchen. You are literally rinsing out your coffee mug right next to the toilet.
    - For a company that's been around for over a decade, they still behave in startup mode.
    - turnover is pretty high.
    - the few benefits you get are incredibly expensive. If you have to buy healthcare for your entire family, you're better off finding it yourself than through the company.

    Advice to Management

Look to the powerhouses in the software industry (Google, Microsoft, etc) and learn from their corporate culture and benefits to retain your employees.
